JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, this position is responsible for the direction of the field hockey program, including, but not limited to the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student athletes, supervision of the assistant coach(es), budget management, on-field coaching, innovation regarding fundraising and alumni engagement. The coach will be expected to provide a transformative experience for student athletes to develop leadership in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence while adhering to all rules and regulations as set forth by Simmons University, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the NCAA.

Serve as an active member of Student Affairs engaging in partnerships with all units across the division. Demonstrate exemplary personal conduct, serve as a role model for student athletes, maintain a commitment to excellent customer and/or student service and possess ethical and responsible decision-making.

Head Coach Duties

  • Conduct all official practices and games – 19 weeks

  • Create pre-season (2 weeks,) traditional season (12 weeks) and off-season practice schedules (5 weeks)

  • Teach individual skills and game strategy

  • Mange team travel trips

  • Hire, train and supervise assistant coaching staff (2)

  • Ensure all NCAA eligibility and medical clearance processes in coordination with Head Athletic Trainer

  • Manage team funds and fundraising activities

  • Conduct athlete leadership training

  • Manage family/parent support and engagement

  • Mentor and counsel individual athletes with issues of concern and make appropriate referrals

  • Nationally recruit academically qualified student athletes

    • Develop and execute communication plan

    • Identify recruits

    • Assist applicant from introduction, prospect to applicant, to completion of deposit

    • Coordinate and conduct annual alumnae game

    • Attend Admissions open houses

 

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required

  • A minimum 3 years of college coaching experience 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations governing recruitment, player eligibility and related functions is required

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree is preferred

  • Head coaching experience preferred

  • Collegiate playing experience preferred

  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude and serve as a role model for students

  • Ability to work as a member of a team in a dynamic and fast paced environment. 

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The position requires frequent weekend and evening hours. 

  • Must hold a valid driver's license. 

  • Requires occasional lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

  • Noise level is moderate to loud
