Essential Job Functions:
The graduate assist will assist the head coach in administering and managing all functions necessary to ensure the success and health of the Goucher College Field Hockey program. Provide support to the head coach to help create a transformative student-athlete experience, demonstrate positive progress in competitive standing in the Landmark Conference, recruit student-athletes to the college and maintain roster standards.
Video: Assistant coach is responsible for game-day film, uploading the film to NFHCA share platform, and will assist HC in pre and post-game film preparation to present to team.
Recruiting: Assistant coach will help HC with recruitment efforts (including official and unofficial visit itineraries and maintaining database of recruits). This position also requires attending recruiting tournaments/games during non-traditional times (over winter break and summer).
Training sessions and Game Day Operations: Assist HC in facilitating and developing engaging and productive training sessions that provide balance of technical and tactical instruction in support of our overall system of play and play principles. Prepare field for practice (scoreboard, whiteboards, equipment/balls, etc.) OR delegate to team manager or student coach. Assist HC on the sidelines during games.
Team travel: Work with HC to develop an itinerary for away trips, at least 72 hours in advance, to send to the bus company and the team. Organize meals for away games and coordinate all post-game meals within budget.
Organization: The graduate assistant will maintain records and assist with maintaining inventory for the program (uniforms, equipment, gear, etc.). Assistant coach will inform the HC when gear needs to be reordered/restocked.
Fundraising: The graduate assistant will assist the HC in fundraising efforts to support the Field Hockey Blue & Gold Society (this includes running clinics, connecting with alums when appropriate).
Requirements:
Education:
Required: Undergraduate degree
Preferred: Level 1 USA FH Coach Certified
Professional Experience: Preferred: Former Collegiate Field Hockey athlete with club coaching experience
Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel (preferably including use of formulas, creating charts, and sorting data), and PowerPoint.
Other Skills, Abilities, Qualifications: Ability to code/break down game film (or the willingness to learn). Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize. Professional phone etiquette. Attention to detail; ability to work under time pressure; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with frequent interruptions; diplomacy; discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
